Obedience is a common theme in the Bible. Just about every story hinges on it. The disciples could've refused to cast their nets on the other side of the boat but would've missed their blessing, and the lesson, of a catch so heavy they couldn't even get it into the boat. ( John 21:1-14 ) Jonah chose disobedience and became lunch and endangered the lives of others. ( Jonah 1 ) Moses was the object of anger with the Israelites as they were thirsty in the wilderness and because of his obedience, they were provided water from a rock. ( Exodus 17:1-7 ) The second time this happened, Moses responded with anger instead and lost the honor of leading them into the land God had promised them. ( Numbers 20:2-13 ) Obedience is required. The list of stories go on and on but I want to pause a take a look at 1 Kings 17 today. Ahab is king and a terrible king he is.
